The Granite Statesmen Barbershop Chorus is a vibrant and enthusiastic group of men who come together each week in Nashua, New Hampshire, to celebrate the joy of barbershop harmony. Founded in 1955, they are the proud Nashua chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. With a rich history spanning decades, the chorus has been a dynamic organization, becoming one of the most beloved musical ensembles in Nashua.
The Granite Statesmen are more than just a group of singers; they are a brotherhood of individuals who share a passion for Barbershop singing and camaraderie. Every Wednesday evening, they gather at the Nashua Senior Activity Center to rehearse and refine their craft. These rehearsals are filled with laughter, learning, and a shared commitment to musical harmony. New members are always welcomed with open arms and a friendly smile, in a truly supportive environment.
Throughout the year, the Granite Statesmen perform at a variety of events, enthralling audiences in the Greater Nashua area and beyond. Featuring a repertoire of classic and contemporary Barbershop tunes, the chorus performs at several annual Christmas shows including a performance during the Nashua Holiday Stroll, patriotic events in the summer, and Barbershop community conventions, celebrations and contests. Their Singing Valentines fundraiser, featuring quartets comprised of chorus members, is another cherished tradition where the they deliver personalized serenades to loved ones, spreading joy and romance through their harmonious melodies.
The Granite Statesmen are dedicated to consistent vocal improvement with a focus on supportive music training, vocal coaching, performance coaching and other enrichment opportunities offered to their members. At times throughout their history, the Chorus's focus has led it to lofty achievements in contest with international recognition. Today, the Nashua Chapter leadership and its chorus members endeavor to prioritize vocal improvement while creating a supportive and inclusive environment where new singers of all skill levels are welcomed and valued.
The chorus is directed by our talented Jamie Saucier. A lifelong musician, music educator, and music director, Jamie started his carrier in Barbershop with the Granite Statesmen in 2020. The Chapter is led by a Board of Directors who manage the activities of the chorus; rehearsals, performances, shows, contests, educational opportunities and community events. The Chapter's Music Team selects repertoire, organizes coaching opportunities, and creates lively and educational rehearsal nights for the chorus.
In addition to their public performances, the Granite Statesmen are deeply committed to giving back to their community. They frequent perform at local nursing homes, hospitals, and community events, using their musical talents to uplift and inspire.
