Musical Director

Steve Tramack

Steve Tramack joined The Granite Statesmen as a high school student, along with his Father, in the early 1980's. He was already singing and acting in local theatre and school productions and adapted quickly to the barbershop style.
In his late teens and early twenties, Steve performed across New England with the popular quartet Potential Favorites, acted as Assistant Director of The Granite Statesmen, and earned a degree in Computer Science during the evenings and weekends.

In spite of his tremendously busy schedule, Steve always took the time to listen to barbershop music and developed a keen ear for harmony. With a few short years of practice, Steve earned the right to perform in the International Quartet Contest as the baritone of Potential Favorites and again later with From the Heart. To this day, Steve can successfully perform all four parts in a barbershop quartet, learns new arrangements with ease, and has eliminated the need for a pitch pipe completely with his amazing pitch recall ability.

Due to a job transfer in 1991, Steve and his wife Renee, who is also a skilled barbershop harmony singer and director, moved to Virginia. While there, Steve had the opportunity to become the Musical Director of the local barbershop chorus and improved his craft. His well developed talent contributed to their meteoric rise which was noticed by many barbershoppers, especially The Granite Statesmen. When Steve and Renee suggested that they wanted to move back to New England and the Director position was clearly going to be vacant at the same time, it seemed only a matter of destiny that Steve would return to lead the group that he fondly admits he "grew up with."

Steve has directed The Granite Statesmen since 1996.  He has led the chorus through a period of unprecedented musical growth, culminating in first place finishes in nine Northeastern District Chorus Contests (1997, 1999 - 2006). Steve has also continued his quartet success as a member of Club NED, 1999 Northeastern District Champions. He is a highly regarded barbershop music teacher and coach and is a regular faculty member at Society sponsored barbershop harmony schools and seminars.

Steve is employed as an Engineering Manager for HP and lives in Nashua, NH with his family.  His father, brother, and wife are all enthusiastic barbershop harmony singers.
